Britain’s Queen Elizabeth To Celebrate Jubilee Through Concert, Parade

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II will mark 70 years on the throne this summer with a star-studded concert, a parade, a pageant and a baking competition presided over by former “The Great British Bake-Off”Mary Berry was judge among many other events.

In February, the Queen will become the first British monarch to reach her platinum jubilee, surpassing Queen Victoria’s 63-year-long reign.

At 95 years old, the Queen succeeded to the throne in 1952, when George VI, her father, died from coronary heart disease.

Among dozens of events planned to mark the occasion are a thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral in honor of her long reign, celebratory street parties across the U.K. and the lighting of 1,500 beacons across the country. In the run-up to the event, 60,000 trees have also been planted in the Queen’s name to promote the issue of climate change.

There are also events to celebrate the occasion:

  • BBC’s Platinum Party at the Palace: Some of the world’s biggest artists will perform at a concert in Buckingham Palace which will be broadcast live on the BBC. No names have been released yet. The public can vote for tickets to the event.
  • The Platinum Pudding CompetitionMary Berry “Masterchef’s” Monica Galetti and Buckingham Palace head chef Mark Flanagan will host a U.K.-wide baking competition to discover the best new dessert created in honor of the jubilee – all U.K. residents aged 8 and over are invited to submit an entry.
  • The Platinum Jubilee PageantDubbed “a” “festival of creativity” involving street arts, theatre, music, circus, costumes and technology it will see dancers, musicians and performers from across the U.K. and the Commonwealth tell the story of the Queen’s reign.
  • Celebration at the Platinum JubileeThis theatrical extravaganza will be 90 minutes long and feature 1000 performers and 500 horses. It will also include artists, musicians, dancers, and musicians.
  • The Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour):The Queen, along with key members of her immediate family, will appear on the balcony as thousands of soldiers, horses, and musicians parade down The Mall in celebration of her birthday.

In addition to a multitude of jubilee celebrations, there has been also created a single public holiday, which means that residents of the UK will enjoy a 4-day weekend the first week of June.
