Title: Urgent Food Recall: Listeria Contamination Found in Bread Spread Ltd Products

Nearly two dozen products manufactured by Bread Spread Ltd are ‘unsafe to eat’ and are ‘subject to a number of hygiene and traceability contraventions,’ health officials said.

Health Concerns: Listeria Contamination in Bread Spread Ltd Bread and Pasta Salad Products

Consumers in the UK are being advised against eating certain bread and pasta salad products due to serious health concerns. In a May 16 alert, the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) revealed that nearly two dozen different bread products – including baguettes, French sticks, sandwiches, rolls, and wraps – manufactured and supplied by Bread Spread Ltd have been recalled due to contamination issues.

Recall Details

The recall impacts a variety of products such as Tuna sweetcorn French sticks, ham cheese French sticks, chicken tikka French sticks, and more. These products, under the brand names Bread Spread, Orbital Foods, and Perfect Bite, were all manufactured and supplied by Bread Spread Ltd. All package sizes of the products with use by dates up to and including 18 May 2024 are included in the recall.

Reason for Recall

The recall is the result of contamination concerns as the products were not manufactured in accordance with food law requirements. The recalled products are “subject to a number of hygiene and traceability contraventions which makes them unsafe to eat,” and “listeria monocytogenes has been found in some of the products.” Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeria infection, a serious illness that can lead to various symptoms including fever, muscle aches, and more. Those at higher risk include young children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.

Actions to Take

Health officers have advised that all affected products should be removed from sale by food businesses across the UK supplied by Bread Spread Ltd. These products are deemed unsafe to eat and should be disposed of promptly to prevent any potential health risks associated with listeria contamination.
