The star said that he was so unhappy with the storyline, he contacted Michael Jacobs, executive producer of the show. He explained that the producer did not respond to his concerns after he had made his case. Rider Strong continued:
I remember feeling so upset and brought it up to my attention. I clearly remember speaking to [series creator] Michael [Jacobs]You can talk about it. You might not understand it, but if you grew up during the AIDS era, it is something we need to discuss. Talking about losing your virginity is a conversation that involves discussing how and when you will do it. I was completely shocked when he said it was ridiculous to worry about, and that we didn’t even have to discuss it. It was an incredibly reckless thing to do.
Danielle Fishel agreed with fellow cast members about the feeling of discomfort.
