To this day Boy Meets WorldAs one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 1990s, it holds a special place among TV fans. Despite the obvious love, many viewers may have questions about behind-the scenes creative decisions. The biggest was arguably the decision during the show’s run to recast Morgan Matthews as the lead character. Cast changes (or their absences) weren’t unusual in that era of TGIF sitcoms as demonstrated by Family MattersJudy Winslow is the only one who can speak for her, but she was a great friend. The age-old Boy Meets WorldCheck out a recent episode on the rewatch podcast Pod Meets WorldThe show is hosted by Rider Strong, Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle, series alums. The group also caught up with William Russ (the Matthews family patriarch Alan) during the installment. The group discussed Season 1 Episode 1. “On the Fence”During the chat, they revealed to each other that Michael Jacobs was the series creator and spent six episodes just pairing random characters together. Friedle mentioned Eric’s little sister Morgan being a potential brother/sister pairing during the initial season. Lily Nicksay, OG Morgan actress, was recalled being “a nice kid”Who “loved making jokes.”
After the second season, Danielle Fishel made the transition from Lily Nicksay and Lindsay Ridgeway. She asked William Russ his opinion on the notable swap. He said that Nicksay was unhappy at the time.
It was probably something to do with growing older. I’m not sure she was very happy at the time and [creator]Michael Jacobs, to his credit was able see that. He decided that it was best for her to try something new, and go somewhere else.
Michael Jacobs was a great man for being able recognize the anxiety of the young actress and allow her to pursue other career opportunities. After mentioning that Mathews had been absent for a while, the cast then mentioned that Mathews had disappeared suddenly. The series ultimately addressed Morgan’s absence and reappearance in Season 3 when Ridgeway took over the character. Danielle Fishel understood the pressure of making a hit TV show and reflected on the situation of Morgan.
We were referring specifically to the pressure. It is important to desire it. It’s a lot on your shoulders and she was 6 years old. I believe she reached the point where she was like. ‘This isn’It is as much fun and as exciting as you guys believe it to be.
While it is obvious that acting can be difficult, the challenges for child stars can be even more challenging. It was probably best for Lily Nicksay to leave early and not continue the show’s run. The cast and she managed to finish strong after seven seasons.
There are still mysteries about character that must be solved. This includes why characters like Stuart Minkus or Mr. Turner were dropped. At the very minimum, I am happy to have solved the Morgan Matthews mystery.
