Boy, 7, disappears in night as police issue urgent appeal after temperatures plunge

A desperate search has been carried out overnight after a 7-year-old boy has gone missing.

Carson Shephard (7) vanished from Afton bridgend in New Cumnock East Ayrshire Sunday night. Police issued an urgent appeal through social media.

East Ayrshire Police published the appeal at about 10.20pm to ask for people’s help in tracking down the youngster.

Carson is 3ft 6in tall and has short dark brown hair. He was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, black top, and a tshirt.

The public was urged last night to inspect their gardens, garages and sheds.

This morning police renewed its appeal through the Ayrshire Police Division account on Facebook.

Ayrshire Police Division wrote: “Police in Ayrshire are appealing for the public’s assistance in tracing 7-year-old Carson Shephard who has been reported missing from New Cumnock.

“Carson was last seen in the Afton Bridgend area of the village at around 7.20pm on Sunday, 19 September, 2021.”

They went on: “Carson is around 3ft 6in tall, has short dark brown hair, and is of slim build.

“He was last known to be wearing dark blue jeans, a t-shirt and a black top.

“Police Scotland, as well as partner agencies, have made use of a range of resources since Carson was reported missing, including the police helicopter, marine and dog units, and Scottish Fire & Rescue Service water support unit.

“The local community has also been providing assistance to officers in the area.

“Anybody with information about Carson or who may know his location is asked to contact Police Scotland at 101 or 999 in an emergency, quoting incident number 3166 of Sunday 19 September 2021.

Users on Facebook have set up a group to share information regarding the boy’s disappearance after many helped search for the boy during the night.

One user wrote: “We have been looking all night! No new updates going home for a couple hours sleep and will be back up.”

Another wrote: “It’s 4c in the area now. Really hope this wee guy has found shelter and is warm.”
