BBC Studios To Receive Inaugural Mipcom Studio Of Distinction Award
BBC Studios is to be recognized with Mipcom’s first ever Studio of Distinction award at this year’s October market and CEO Tom Fussell will be joined by BBC DG Tim Davie for a speech on the first day. This award was created to recognize a significant achievement by a global station and will be presented as the BBC turns 90 and its international broadcasting operations becomes 90. Davie, the former CEO of BBC Studios, will speak about the award. Fussell replaced him last year. “enduring importance of the BBC at home and around the world,”Fussell will be discussing the “rapid pace of change”The studio behind the likes Frozen Planet II, Good OmensAnd Top Gear. BBC Studios has just come off a record-breaking year, which saw profits rise by more than 50%, and turnover grow by 30%. BBC Studios’ commercial arm is increasingly important as it faces financial challenges and hundreds of millions of pounds in savings each year. “Our first recipients could not be more timely or relevant given the extraordinary international impact and ongoing influence of this unique producer, broadcaster and distributor,” said Lucy Smith, Director of Mipcom and Mip Junior, the latter of which will see an address from BBC Studios MD, Kids & Family, Cecilia Persson.
