The reason for Xander Forrester’s return was to bring up a past that wasn’t resolved to redeem Thomas. It strengthened Thomas’ relationship with Hope by showing they knew how to communicate. Thomas realized he had to be honest to build a foundation for their future. This situation allowed the couple to make peace with their complicated past.
