Ashley Leechin, Taylor Swift's Ashley Leechin and Swifties condemn the 'prank.'

Ashley Leechin, aka TikTok Swift, has addressed the backlash from fans after tricking countless Swifties to believe she was real when leaving two LA stores.

Taylor Swift has become one of music’s biggest stars, so it is no surprise that wherever she travels things are a little tense. This happened in two places around Los Angeles on Saturday (19th August). Unknown to the people who were scrambling to get a picture, Ashley Leechin was the lookalike.

Ashley Leechin is a Taylor Swift lookalike who duped Swifties to believe she was Taylor Swift.

Leechin first pranked fans by turning up at The Grove outdoor shopping area in Los Angeles along with several ‘security guards’ wearing all black and earpieces. After pulling off the same prank at Downtown Disney in Anaheim California’s Disneyland shopping district, Leechin then returned to The Grove outdoor shopping area.

Ashley wore a white top, blue jeans, carried a red bag and wore a red cap and Taylor’s trademark red lipstick as she entered the shop with her entourage. Ashley looked strikingly similar to Swift, which was what caused the chaos as fans tried desperately to take a selfie.

Leechin’s stunt creates backlash among unhappy Swifties

Ashley’s hurried exit from the shop, escorted as usual by her entourage, was captured in a number of videos that went viral.

Many netizens initially thought it was Swift. However, those who were more keen-eyed realised that it was a doppelganger.

Leechin then took to Instagram to share her story to reveal why she did it.

“What a way to show what it’s like to live in the shoes of a well-known celebrity. I think this why they hire decoys so they can go to private events & enjoy themselves without being swarmed by fans,” she wrote.

Her prank, however, caused Swifties to take to Instagram to post angry comments about her latest posts.

‘I usually don’t comment stuff, but that ‘social experiment’ was done in such bad taste. Please, I’m begging you to see this from Taylor’s point of view. It’s not fair that she just got absolutely BOMBARDED during her FRIENDS rehearsal meal and now you cause scenes in other locations. This is going to end up being a safety risk,’ one fan commented on her IG.

‘I don’t think Taylor would appreciate you trying to trick fans at Disney World. SEEK HELP,’ another added.

‘Omg she’s sick!! Taylor’s bad press has been a lot!! And she’s making it worse!!!’, a third said.

‘Oh she wants her 5 minutes of fame so bad,’ someone else commented.

Following the latest prank, Ashley took to Instagram Stories to say that the act was not ‘malicious’ and celebrities use decoy’s all the time. “Please don’t expect me to turn off my comments, stop making content or disappear for that matter. Freedom of speech is a good thing, and it’s your right to speak out. The videos surfacing are taken way out of context & I just want to say to those who have messaged me and have said very kind things, I see you and I thank you. I just hope those who are angry over speculation do not dwell on this and can eventually enjoy their day,” she wrote.

In the past, Leechin has said she does “not live like Taylor Swift,” explaining: “I have 2 children, a husband, a cat family & I am a licensed Registered Nurse who makes content on social media as well as pursuing an acting career. I do not aspire to write music, sing or play a musical instrument.”
