The funeral of Hells Angel leader Sonny Barger, which took place at Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton on Saturday, saw thousands of people gather.

Barger died after a brief battle against cancer in June at the age 83. He is most well-known for his founding of the Hells Angels motorcycle club.

Who was Sonny Barger, you ask?

Sonny Barger was born October 1938. He was a five time author, biker, and actor. He hails from Modesto in California.

In 1957, he set up the Oakland’s chapter of Hells Angels following the disbanding of his former motorcycle group, the Oakland Panthers. As each member wore the iconic skull patch on their biker jackets, the group was instantly identifiable.

7,000 attend Barger’s funeral

Barger’s funeral on Saturday brought 7,000 people together who gathered to pay their final respects to the biker and actor.

The memorial service took place at Stockton 99 Speedway, Stockton with the presence of officers from The Sheriff’s Office, Stockton Police Department and California Highway Patrol.

Barged has passed away at home

After a long battle with liver cancer, Barger died at his California home in Livermore.

Before his death, he requested that a statement be made on his behalf and shared on Facebook. The statement read: “If you are reading this message, you’ll know that I’m gone. I’ve asked that this note be posted immediately after my passing.

“I’ve lived a long and good life filled with adventure. And I’ve had the privilege to be part of an amazing club. Although I’ve had a public persona for decades, i’ve mostly enjoyed special time with my club brothers, my family, and close friends. Please know that I passed peacefully after a brief battle with cancer.

“But also know that in the end, I was surrounded by what really matters: My wife, Zorana, as well as my loved ones. Keep your head up high, stay loyal, remain free, and always value honor.”
