How to Keep Your iPhone Safe in the Summer Heat
Extended exposure to sunlight can actually shorten the battery life of your iPhone.
It’s not just iPhones that are susceptible.
iPads can also experience performance issues when exposed to excessive heat.
According to Apple, iPhones and iPads should ideally be used in “ambient” temperatures, ranging from 0º to 35ºC (32º to 95ºF).
The company warns against using devices in extreme temperature conditions, as this can disrupt the device’s normal operations in order to regulate temperature.
This can lead to unexpected shutdowns of your iPhone.
Apple further states: “Using an iOS or iPadOS device in very hot conditions can have a detrimental effect on battery life.”
“Extreme temperatures can also cause certain features to temporarily malfunction.
“In severe conditions, your device may become temporarily unresponsive.”

Even when your iPhone is not in use – whether streaming content or playing games – Apple advises keeping the device in locations where the temperature does not exceed 45ºC (113ºF).
Apple highlights three common mistakes to avoid during warm weather:
AUTO TROUBLE
Leaving your iPhone in a hot car is not recommended, similar to how you wouldn’t leave a pet or a baby in a vehicle.
The temperature inside parked cars can easily surpass safe limits, especially during the summer months.
KEEP TRACK OF TIME
Avoid leaving your device exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period, as per Apple’s guidelines.
While you may want to soak in the sun, your iPhone does not share the sentiment.
It’s advisable to keep the device indoors, or shielded under a cloth or clothing if you’re aiming to get some sun.
MAPS’D OUT
Extended use of certain features and apps in hot weather can also negatively impact your device.
For instance, using navigation apps like Google Maps during a lengthy drive on a hot day or engaging in graphic-intensive gaming or augmented reality applications.
