Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley noticed that Leah was maturing in a recent Teen Mom: The Next Chapter episode.

Teen MomLeah Shirley and Amber Portwood’s Amber Portwood got honest about sex, periods, and their relationship. She spoke without apology about her struggle with period pain and her recent trip to the doctor. Leah’s dad told her mother that Leah felt comfortable filming their intimate moment.
“[The doctor] explained to me, how to, like, take it,” Leah told her father. “She gave me a whole talk about everything.”

Gary’s main concern was Leah’s relationship with men. He wanted to make sure Leah wasn’t already thinking of having sex. Having said that, he reminded Leah of her mother’s struggles when she was 17 and pregnant. Leah appeared to understand, but she also said that sexuality wasn’t on her mind.

Gary managed the conversation well. He sought advice from his wife Kristina, as well as Amber Portwood. Leah also knew that he was always there for her to chat about dating, sexuality, etc.
“Well, I would definitely go talk to Kristina first. It just makes sense ‘cause she’s a woman and probably understands more things from the point of view I have,” Leah replied. “And then we’d probably find a way to tell you.”
Amber was completely on board with Amber’s decision. She said that she wished her mother had put her on contraception to relieve her cramps. Amber doesn’t seem to be concerned about birth control having sexual side effects.
“She’s smart and she understands … what sex is and to wait,” she said in a confessional. “For me, being a young, teenage mom, the statistic is usually that it’ll happen to your children,” Amber added.

Leah Shirley’s age
Leah Messer, 14, is Leah Messer’s age. She was younger when her mother became pregnant, aged 17, than she is now. In November 2022, they celebrated the birth of her daughter.
In celebration, her father made an Instagram post. Leah’s dad shared some photos with Leah and her family.
“Wishing my very awesome daughter Leah Shirley a very happy birthday, she’s a very smart young lady & I couldn’t ask for a better kid,” he captioned the post.
