Albert Cheng named Vice President of Amazon Prime Video U.S.

Albert Cheng was promoted to vice-president of Amazon Prime Video U.S. He was most recently the chief operating officer at Amazon Studios.

Mike Hopkins, the senior vice president for Prime Video and Amazon Studios announced the news Wednesday in a memo to employees. Cheng will report directly to Hopkins in the newly created position.

Prime Video’s 2022 year has seen tremendous growth. From the acquisition of MGM to record-breaking success at Prime Video ‘The Rings of Power’ to last week’s kick-off of Thursday Night Football to this summer’s launch of ‘Clean Slate,’This team has transformed Prime Video in many different ways. I am proud of all you guys and how you deliver for our customers.

As we think about how we can position ourselves to grow, it became obvious to me that we need a dedicated leader who will focus on our U.S. Prime Video Business. To that end, I’d like to share that Albert Cheng will take on the newly created role of VP, Prime Video U.S., effective immediately and reporting to me.

Albert will become the single-threaded leader overseeing our Prime Video business in the United States, with responsibility for the P&L and revenue growth, and for driving and improving performance. He will continue his leadership in U.S., Global tentpole programming strategy as well as consumer insights. Albert will also be in charge of Prime Video brand strategy and brand social, influencer and media marketing and audience insights. He will also be responsible for customer acquisition and retention as well as engagement with our entertainment hub on SVOD and AVOD.

Soon, you will hear more about Albert and his plans to organise his team.

This is a crucial role that requires the ability to think big as well as deliver operational results. I can’t think of anyone better than Albert to take it on. Please join me to congratulate him on his new job.
