According to authorities, an Alabama resident was delayed in his commute when he saw his dogs playing with a skull of a human being.
Birmingham officers arrived Friday morning after receiving a call from a man who found his dogs messing with the human remains in his yard as he was leaving for his job.
Birmingham Police Department officers were told by the man that his animals frequently roamed in a nearby wooded area.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates stated that it was not clear from where the dogs found the skull and that other parts of the body have not been found.
The skull appeared to be significantly weathered and was several years old, Yates said.
Authorities stated that no identifying evidence was discovered and that the cause of death was not clear.
Authorities say that they are continuing to investigate the matter.
