After the Birmingham Commonwealth Games snub, Lady Leshurr finally speaks up

EXCLUSIVE: Lady Leshurr has spoken in an interview with HITC Entertainment after fans asked why she didn’t appear at Birmingham’s Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.

Commonwealth Games supporters tuned into the grand finale of Birmingham’s mammoth sporting event on Monday as several musical icons from the region took to the stage to honor the city’s legacy.

Fans furious at Lady Leshurr Commonwealth snub

Fans of Leshurr, a Birmingham-born rapper, were quick to ask why Leshurr wasn’t there at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.

“I was definitely meant to do it”

The star spoke out to HITC in an exclusive interview. She confirmed that she was indeed involved in the initial planning for the musical bonanza. But, things turned sour before the show’s day.

“I was definitely meant to do it. I had like the meetings and stuff and then I just don’t know what happened. It’s just like they asked me to do the Brum advert, which you might have seen.

“I think that was the opening ceremony, so I done that and then I did like radio voiceovers and stuff and then they said they wanted to go with another direction.”

Queen’s Speech inspired Commonwealth Closing Ceremony

Leshurr was quick to reveal that she was the one who actually instigated the closing ceremony. Her bosses had wanted a one shot finale with the same feel as her iconic video. Queen’s Speech 4

“I didn’t get to catch the Australian one that they’d done. They were telling me how the Queen’s Speech inspired the Australian event. It was all one take. They were like, we tried to get you on that one, but we’d LOVE to get you on this one.

“I was excited because I was gonna be a part of producing it as well and how the cameras would come out and stuff. So I was like, yeah, I’m gonna finally get my director vibes on. I honestly don’t know what happened. That was the only kind of thing that I got relayed back to me that it all going with a different direction.”

“I would’ve loved to have been a part of that”

Leshurr stated that she was thrilled to see her hometown rally behind her.

She stated: “I would’ve loved to be a part of that, you know it’s just amazing, made amazing artist that run it as well. Um, it would be great to be a part of it, but you know, things happen, isn’t it? So maybe they, they just decided something else.”
