After ‘Riling Up Protesters’, Sen. Josh Hawley is ridiculed for fleeing Capitol

The last hearing before the Jan. 6 committee was full of extraordinary testimony. It was not just fallout for former President Donald Trump; it also included testimony from Republican Senator Josh Hawley.

After showing Hawley raising a fist outside of the Capitol on Jan. 6, an un-seen surveillance video was played that showed Hawley fleeing later that same day.

“Later that day, Senator Hawley fled after those protesters he helped to rile up stormed the Capitol,”Elaine Luria is a committee member.

After the video had been shown, laughter was reported in the chamber. Within minutes, memes mocking Hawley started pouring in.

The committee also heard shocking new evidence when it learned that ex-Vice President Mike Pence’s Secret Service agents had feared for their lives, and called their families to say goodbye due to the threat from the mob.

“The VP detail thought this was about to get very ugly,”In recorded testimony, an unnamed official claimed.

You can also see excerpts from Trump’s speech the day after the riots. His daughter Ivanka can be heard coaching him from the sidelines. He erupted into frustration at one point.

Trump called the proceedings a sham today. “kangaroo court.”

Rep. Liz Cheney delivered the closing remarks.

“Can a president who is willing to make the choice Donald Trump made during the violence of January 6 ever be trusted with any position of authority in our great nation ever again?”Cheney asked.

A Republican congresswoman announced, as well, that the next hearing would be held in September.
