After Matt Shakman’s departure, the ‘Star Trek’ sequel was removed from the release slate for a month

The future “Star Trek” sequel originally scheduled for December, 2023 has been undated and removed from Paramount’s upcoming release slate, as confirmed.

Although no further details have been released about the decision, it comes nearly exactly a month since Matt Shakman, director of the project left.

The untitled follow-up to 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond”J.J. Abrams announced it at the Paramount investor day in early 2015. Alongside Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, stars Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaña, Simon Pegg and John Cho were all expected to return. Geneva Robertson-Dwore and Lindsey Beer were set to direct the film, originally slated for December 23, 2023.

The so-called „The Film” would have continued. “Kelvin timeline”Film series: Pine stars as James T. Kirk in a reboot of the franchise that debuted in 2009 with Abrams’ directed “Star Trek.”In an alternate continuity, an old Spock travels back in time to create a divergent timeline that allows everything from the Federation down to the lives of the characters. “Trek”Admirals Kirk and other luminaries were very different.

No word on whether Paramount will revive the film at a later date, but given how busy the cast is — particularly Pine, who is soon to make his feature directorial debut with the mystery comedy “Poolmen,” Saldaña, who is busy with both the “Avatar” sequels and Marvel films, and Urban, who stars in Amazon’s monster hit “The Boys” — that may prove a challenge.

But it’s not that! “Star Trek”Fans have cause to be concerned. There are many reasons to be concerned. “Star Trek” came out, the franchise was at a low point, with the two biggest recent projects fizzling out — the final film featuring the “Next Generation” cast, “Star Trek: Nemesis,”The TV series was cancelled. “Star Trek: Enterprise”The show failed to find a strong audience. It was cancelled after 4 seasons. This makes it the first TV series to end in seven years.

But it’s been 6 years since “Star Trek Beyond,”Now, the original situation is reversed. “Trek”Paramount+ is much more proud of continuity and celebrates it. Thanks to hits such as “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Picard,” “Strange New Worlds”And “Lower Decks,”More shows are on the way. The 5-year-old voyage is over, but there’s still a lot to do before we reach the frontier. “Final.”
