This placed them second at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Matt was on Strictly Come dancing’s spin-off, It Takes Two. He shared his frustrations over the criticisms he received.

After Nadiya and his performance, Shirley Ballas, the head judge, had said to Matt: “You are beautifully groomed and have a lot swag. You definitely have a lot potential.”

“But for me, it fell a little bit apart. I’m looking for something… Is it the feet? Maybe it’s the knees? Maybe it’s the body position? The frame got lost, you were moving, rattling a little bit between the two of you.”

Anton Du Beke, meanwhile, told Matt he “looked like an unmade bed”.

Matt, who became famous in the 80s duo Bros., said: “Everyone seemed to get constructive criticism and then to say, ‘Well, I don’t quite know what it was but…’ Well, I want to know what it was.”

However, the singer credit Craig Revel Horwood as well as Motsi Mause to his songs – suggesting that his anger is with Anton and Shirley.

“I did find great comfort in Craig – I never thought I’d be able to say that in Week One,” Matt added.

He said he liked the routine, but he also mentioned his frame. He continued to mention that he would learn more about his frame. That is the whole point.

“Motsi – she’s dead right. I was into the dance but she wanted to feel me more. And that’s what I needed. I needed that critique that I can actually go back and use, you know?”

Matt’s Strictly partner Nadiya also allowed Rylan Clark to express her opinions on the judges comments. Rylan Clark described them as “harsh”.

The xx-born dancer stated that she was not a judge, but a professional dancer. She felt they were too harsh.

“It was Week One. Matt did all the steps. It was quite a full routine. It was very contentious, the quickstep was a difficult dance and Matt’s musicality was perfect.

“Obviously he is a musician, but to actually do all the steps correctly, hit all the accents in 10 days of just rehearsing something new – I wouldn’t be able to go on stage and perform like he does. And he did it in front if the millions.”
