Governor Kathy Hochul revealed earlier this month that eligible New Yorkers for the Empire State Child Credit or Earned Income Credit should be receiving the relief payments by October 31.

According to the Governor’s OfficeClaimants who file for both or both credit are eligible to receive the money. It comes from a $475million pot.

The checks, which will include one or two payments and a minimum amount of $25 issued, will help New Yorkers struggling through Covid and inflation.

Hochul spoke earlier in the month. Statement“With this relief package we are reaffirming our commitment to help hardworking New Yorkers navigate the national affordability crisis.

“This program will put money back in the pockets of nearly two million New York families struggling to make ends meet in the face of the pandemic, inflation, and other rising costs.”

“My administration remains laser-focused on improving affordability statewide, and I thank the Legislature for its partnership in ensuring that New York families get this much-needed financial assistance,” Hochul continued.

The state’sDepartment of Taxation and Financerevealed that checks will be sent automatically meaning taxpayers don’t have to take any extra action.

Officials claim that all checks should be completed by October 31. However, they warn of possible delays.

If additional information was required by the state, this could be true.

New Yorkers are not required to report the payment in 2022 when they file their income tax return.

Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Majority Leader of the House, also raised concerns about the extra money.

Cousins stated: “We know that New Yorkers are suffering because of the nationwide affordability crises. That is why the Senate Majority increased the Earned income Tax Credit and provided a Supplemental Empire State Child Credit for middle-class and lower-income families.

“As the cost of living continues to rise, we are proud to deliver $595 million in tax benefits to hardworking New Yorkers. The EITC is a powerful tool with a long record of success in reducing childhood poverty and uplifting working families.”

In Hawaii, payments are being made, which will benefit thousands of taxpayers.

OfficialsRhode Islandhave also acted and are sending automatic rebates to about 115,000 taxpayers.

Additionally, Alaskans will receive a $2,550 payment from the Permanent Fund, which pays a dividend of the state’s oil wealth to residents every year.
