Accused Colorado Club Shooter Makes First Court Appearance

On Wednesday, the suspect in the Colorado Springs massacre of the LGBTQ club, Colorado Springs, Colorado made his virtual first courtroom appearance.

Anderson Lee Aldrich’s 22-year-old mother posted an alarming Facebook post hours before her son opened fire on Club Q. Five people were killed and several others were injured.

“My son is missing,” Sie wrote. “He took my phone and my debit card. We had plans and were so excited.”

Aldrich was also mentioned to her. “Get ready to have the best night ever.”

Aldrich, who was in a wheelchair and appeared before El Paso Court Judge Charlotte Ankeny virtually while he was being held without bond, slumped.

According to court filings that were released Tuesday, the Colorado state public defense stated in writing that Aldrich is not bisexual. ABC News reported. Aldrich being held in 10 “arrest only” Online court records show that five charges of murder were filed and five of bias-motivated crimes causing bodily harm have been brought against the accused.

According to Colorado’s Fourth Judicial Circuit Attorney Michael Allen (El Paso and Teller), the office of the District Attorney expects that formal charges will be filed by next court date.

Authorities said that they may file additional charges beyond those originally included in an arrest warrant. The shooting is being investigated by police as hate crime.

Aldrich was scheduled to appear next in court Dec. 6, at 8:30 AM local time by Ankeny. Due to scheduling conflicts with the defense, this appearance might change.

There have been over 605 mass shootings across the U.S. so far this year.
