A leading expert in infectious diseases says the UK is winning the battle against monkeypox.
Professor Neil Ferguson described the situation “very positive”With cases falling, they are still rising.

He suggested that vaccination and behavioral changes to prevent the infection were likely to be responsible.
The number of cases in the UK rose to 60 per day in mid-July, with 60 new cases in May. In the last few weeks, there have been less than 15 new infections per day and more than 3,500 UK cases.
Prof Ferguson’s data was key to the UK going into the first Covid lockdown in March 2020.
“We have to be alert to the possibility that once case numbers are much lower and maybe people are less vigilant, then we could start to see a resurgence,”According to him, the BBC.
Professor Ferguson spoke out about falling cases, saying: “Vaccination started being rolled-out so that probably had some impact.
“The most likely hypothesis is that there was quite a big change in behaviour in the most affected community.”
