Sign a petition calling for an inquiry by the public into the effects of Brexit

An online petition calling for a public inquiry on the effects of Brexit has received over 60,000 signatures.

PetitionPeter Packham, who manages a Remainer page on Facebook, started the campaign. At time of writing, 60,255 people had signed it.

The government is urged to comply with this call. “assess the impact that Brexit has had” It is done in such a way as to be “free from ideology and the opinions of vested interests”.

It reads: “The benefits that were promised if the UK exited the European Union have not been delivered, so we call upon the Government to hold a Public Inquiry to assess the impact that Brexit has had on this country and its citizens.

“The truth about Brexit is in the hands of the citizens of the country. It is time for us to find out how Brexit has affected trade and the economy. We also need to understand how the impact on rights and freedoms of individual citizens. A Public Inquiry independent of ideology, vested interest and other biases can accomplish this.

The deal comes at a time when Brexit’s house is falling apart. An ex-minister involved in a crucial Brexit deal later admitted that it wasn’t very good. A leading economics expert blamed Britain’s policy of implementing austerity. New polls reveal people are resentful about voting for Brexit, and even GB News viewers don’t love it.

All petitions with more than 10,000 signatures are answered by the government. It will be debated in Parliament if the petition reaches 100,000 signatures.

Richard Wilson, Chairman of Leeds for Europe said: “Many politicians might not like it, but this issue cannot be buried, and it will not go away.

We need a warts and all enquiry into what’s been done in our name, and the impact – good or bad – that Brexit is having on our country.”

The government’s democratic legitimacy is determined by the people. This principle is simple. It is not possible to decide the future of this country by making plots and turning at Westminster.
