73 New Deaths and 21,709 New Positives

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported that Covid-19 caused 73 deaths, and that there were 21,709 additional positive cases.

Some weekend reporting delays could have contributed to the increased number of confirmed deaths and confirmed cases reported today. But today’s data brings the County to a total of 28,886 deaths and 2,631,994 positive cases.

Covid-19 is being used in the hospitalization of 3,998 County residents at the time this report was written. The Department of Public Health noted that over the course of the past week, all Covid metrics apart from deaths—including cases, hospitalizations and the daily test positivity rate—have been on the decline. This week, the numbers of cases are down by 45 percent from the previous week, when 39117 were reported. The number and frequency of hospitalizations fell below 4,000 for more than two weeks. The daily positivity rate dropped below 10% for its first time since December 23.

Public Health also noted that Covid transmission is still a problem “very high,”That means taking is possible. “common sense safety precautions”It is essential to keep infection at bay, especially when there are events like the NFC Championship game or Lunar New Year celebrations.

“With multiple opportunities for gathering and celebrating in the coming days, including cheering on the LA Rams, following sensible safety measures will allow us to continue our recent decline. For residents who are at high-risk, including those older, immunocompromised, or with underlying health conditions, gatherings can be especially risky given the still high rates of transmission,”Barbara Ferrer, Director of Public Health, stated the above. “If you are going to gather, layering on as many protections as possible will provide good defense from possible exposure to the virus. This includes getting tested before the gathering, moving activities outdoors where possible, and keeping that mask on when indoors or in crowded places…And go Rams!”
