The Wizz App appears to be suffering a major outage preventing users from accessing the popular messaging service. Wizz App has been downloaded more than a million times on Google Play and ranks as number 21 in Apple’s social networking category for iPhone downloads.
Wizz App Outage: An Overview
The platform claims to have been downloaded some 15 million times overall. Wizz describes itself as “the ultimate online platform for spontaneous and exciting conversations with people from around the world”. The app was removed from both Android and iOS app stores at the beginning of the year over online safety concerns and reports of sextortion. It was later reinstated after developers made several changes, such as in-app warnings when contact information is requested by another person and mandatory profile verification that aims to check the person’s profile photo matches a selfie taken as they register.
Users Left in the Dark: The Outage Story
Since Wednesday night US time (early hours in the UK), users have been left unable to access the service for several hours now. The lengthy outage has caused some to initially think they may have been banned from the app. Others even went to the effort of deleting and re-installing it. “Is the Wizz app down for anyone else,” one wrote. “Yes bruh, I got scared thought they banned me,” another added. “I deleted the app thinking it was a problem on my end, redownloaded it and it won’t let me sign back in,” a third commented. Reports that Wizz App is down started to appear just after 23:30 ET / 5:30 BST and the app continues to not work. The company’s website also fails to load, returning an error that read: “504 Gateway Time-out.”

The reason for the outage is currently unknown. Wizz App doesn’t have a service status page and their Twitter page hasn’t been updated since February.
