Starring John Cho and rising star Mia Isaac, Don’t Make Me Go follows the story of a terminally ill father teaching his daughter about life before he passes. Though it’s set entirely in the US as the pair travel cross country, none of it was actually filmed there.

Filming was done entirely in New Zealand from April to July 2021, half a world from the location of the film. Hannah Marks, the director, commented on the filming process. Screen Rant:

She stated: “We actually filmed in New Zealand, so we filmed in Auckland in the winter, which was pretty crazy for an American summer road trip movie. Thankfully, as an American, I felt like I had a pretty good handle on what those parts of the country looked like, and we tried to replicate them as best as we could.”

She admitted that they sometimes struggled. “the beautiful New Zealand landscapes […] didn’t look like America.”

Where were they filmed in New Zealand?
