The Yellowstone universe is expanding with many spin-off shows. However, the main series will be back for its long-awaited fifth year.

The new chapter is set to be the most challenging yet for the Duttons as family patriarch John is sworn in as Montana’s new governor but in the process, attracts yet more hostile attention from the scheming bigwigs at Market Equities.

Each new season of Yellowstone has been bigger than the last and that is set to be the case once again this time around – but just how many episodes will there be in season 5 and what can fans expect?

Yellowstone season 5, release date and plot preview

Season 5 premiered in the US on Paramount Network on Sunday, November 13th 2022. It was followed by Paramount+ internationally one day later.

The new installment begins with John Dutton being sworn in as the governor of Montana and while his new role safeguards Yellowstone Ranch against Market Equities’ plan to build an airport on the land, it has well and truly riled up their CEO, Caroline Warner.

Warner is determined to bring down the Duttons, their ranch, and is ready to bring in big guns.

While John’s new role as governor has given him more power, it has also put a bigger target on his back than ever before.

How many episodes is Yellowstone season 5?

Yellowstone season 5 will include 14 episodes.

Season 5 is the longest season yet, as veteran fans will immediately notice.

Yellowstone’s debut season, which aired in 2018, featured nine episodes. Each subsequent season has featured 10 chapters.

However, season 5’s 14 episodes are being split into two parts, each consisting of seven chapters.

The first two episodes of Season 5 were released on November 13, in the US. New episodes will air weekly with the current schedule:

Episodes 8-14 are scheduled to air at a later time, which is yet to be confirmed.

The Yellowstone Universe is growing

The gap in Yellowstone season 5 was due to the new spin-off series 1923.

Like last year’s 1883, the prequel series will fill in some extra details about the history of Yellowstone Ranch and the earlier generations of the Dutton family who lived there.

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren will play the roles of Cara Dutton and Jacob respectively in the new spin-off. The Duttons will be facing many hardships, including Prohibition and Western Expansion that threaten their existence at the ranch.

Paramount+ will air 1923 in the US on December 18, and internationally on December 19, and it will be aired as eight episodes. A second season has been ordered.

It is expected that the main Yellowstone series will resume once 1923’s eight episodes have aired, but the exact details surrounding have yet to be confirmed.
