What is The Manhattan Project? Oppenheimer’s nuclear research explored

Christopher Nolan’s next epic will be a biography of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, focusing on the work he conducted within The Manhattan Project.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Interstellar’s and The Dark Knight director, and based on J. Robert Oppenheimer’s biography American Prometheus, Kai Bird, and Martin J. Sherwin. Oppenheimer tells the story of the theoretical physicist who led to the invention the atomic bomb.

Oppenheimer’s first teaser trailer

Yesterday Universal Pictures released an Oppenheimer special announcement in a looped stream on YouTube and Twitter. This revealed the first trailer for the film.

Oppenheimer’s release date was also confirmed to be July 21, 2023, which will leave fans of the director’s work waiting a year.

The trailer was a mix of fiery images and some black and white scenes of Cillian Murphy’s protagonist.

What is The Manhattan Project?

The Manhattan Project was founded during World War II between 1942-1946, with support from Canada, United Kingdom, and USA.

J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was directed by Major General Leslie Groves of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, also headed the Loa Alamos Laboratory where he was in charge of designing first nuclear weapons.

The entire project was almost US$2Billion in cost and employed over 130,000 people. The research resulted in the development of two types atomic bombs as well as the first detonation nuclear weapon during The Trinity test, which took place in 1945.
