What is Alex Grant's role in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2?

In his efforts to prove Lisa Trammell is innocent of Mitchell Bondurant’s murder, Mickey Haller takes aim at a businessman named Alex Grant but who exactly is he and why is he so important in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2?

*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2* — Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer centers on the murder of wealthy property developer Mitchell Bondurant as Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s Micky Haller is tasked with defending the accused Lisa Trammell. Mickey, as he tries to prove Lisa’s innocence, discovers a link between Bondurant and Alex Grant. The connection could be vital in Netflix’s show.

Mickey beaten up for interfering where he shouldn’t

After identifying Alex Grant (Michael A. Goorjian) as a person of interest, Mickey hopes to be able to call him as a witness as there is a link that could paint Grant as an alternate suspect as Mitchell Bondurant has threatened him about suspicious activity which in turn would help to prove Lisa’s innocence in the case.

Grant runs a highly successful construction firm and is not easy to locate. However, he has many addresses at which he can hide to stay out of the public eye.

Mickey, after having Cisco investigate the mystery magnate in question, clearly upsets some people, as the Lincoln Lawyer was attacked shortly after by two men who ambushed him and left him unconscious.

Mickey, as he recovers in hospital from his injuries, suspects Alex Grant of being behind the assault.

Alex Grant, the Lincoln Lawyer: Who Is He?

Alex Grant, the owner of Argel Construction and a variety of other companies had dealt with Mitchell Bondurant prior to his death.

Through some clever thinking from Lorna, Haller’s colleagues are able to lure Grant out of the shadows in episode 6 after discovering he has a love of art, specifically the work of an artist named Tinto.

Grant has four out of five Tinto paintings. Lorna offers to set up a fake appointment with the hope of selling that fifth piece of art in order to serve him with an official subpoena.

While Mickey had no interest in proving Grant’s potential involvement in Bondurant’s death, he simply needed to use the businessman as a straw man, a fall guy if you will, to create enough doubt in the minds of the jury to convince them of Lisa Trammell’s innocence.

Grant reluctantly appears in court where it’s revealed that he is currently involved in the bidding process to build the Athletes’ Village for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Bondurant’s email to Grant was particularly noteworthy. Mitchell threatened to reveal some suspicious activities carried out by Grant, and that his involvement with the Olympic Village bid could be at risk.

Grant’s success has also been tainted by the fact that his real name is Alex Kazarian. He is the son of an Armenian criminal family, which was run by Sasha before he went to prison for racketeering and fraud.

Mickey and Cisco manage to find enough evidence to suggest that Grant is still involved with the family’s criminal business, resulting in him pleading his Fifth Amendment rights to avoid giving testimony that could incriminate himself.

This proves to be the golden ticket for Mickey Haller as it inspires just enough doubt in the jury that they find Lisa Trammell not guilty – although there’s another twist to her tale.

What is Alex Grant’s involvement in this case? Did he kill Mitchell Bondurant or was a witness to the crime?

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2: Alex Grant, like Lisa Trammell is innocent of the murder of Mitchell Bondurant.

As Cisco reveals, the real killer is a man named Walter Kim, a building inspector who Alex Grant had bribed to falsely certify the work his company had carried out on Bondurant’s latest high-rise building – which was the suspicious activity Bondurant’s email was referring to.

Walter Kim was equally as threatened by Bondurant’s email as it called his own work into question and, knowing that Lisa Trammell had a public disliking for Bondurant, he used this to his advantage.

Lisa was incriminated when he stole the gardening gloves, the hammer, and other tools from her toolkit to use as murder weapons against Mitchell Bondurant.

Cisco learned that the glass fragment found on the crime scene was from a piece of a job mirror. Cisco suspected Kim of using it to divert Bondurant, before killing him with a bludgeon.

Mickey Haller has smeared Alex Grant’s name and his business deals, even though he may not be directly responsible for the death of Mitchell Bondurant.

It’s heavily implied in the finale that he had Walter Kim murdered in order to stop details of the bribes he paid coming to light to protect his Olympic Village bid.

But as Legal Siegal warns, Mickey has also made himself a target by pulling Grant’s shady dealing out into the light.

Mickey thinks nothing of the warning at first until he has an incredibly close call when a car matching the description of Alex Grant’s Audi nearly runs over him in the final moments of the season finale.

Who knows what Grant would do if Mickey was beaten for trying to summon him to testify?

The season finale of The Lincoln Lawyer leaves these plot threads hanging, and sets the stage for an exciting third episode if the show is renewed.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 is now available. Available to stream Part 2 will be available in its entirety on August 3, 2023.
