The first trailer for the film has been released “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon,”A neon-drenched psychological thriller by Ana Lily Amirpour (the writer and director of “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.”

“Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon”Mona Lisa (Jun Jong Seo), is a teenager who escapes from a mental institution to live on the streets of New Orleans. Bonnie (Kate Hudson), single mother trying to make ends work, takes Mona Lisa under her wing when it becomes apparent that Mona Lisa might have supernatural abilities that can make her some money.

The trailer opens with a loud announcement that rings through the facility’s halls, informing authorities that there is an emergency. “violent”Inmate has escaped “the home of mentally insane adolescents.”The Mona Lisa, terrified, creeps out of her bedroom and into the hallways, passing an indifferent guard.

“She is considered dangerous,”The voiceover announces. “Use extreme caution.”

Mona Lisa wanders through the city, before she encounters Bonnie, a stripper/single mother who offers to take her in. While she hides from cops, Bonnie is a sympathetic stranger. In flashbacks, we see that Mona Lisa has telekinetic powers and is able to control people’s movements with her mind. That comes in handy when she’s hunted down by an officer (Craig T. Robinson) hot on their trail.

“She’s a little miracle,”Bonnie “She’s a fugitive,”One of her children responds.

Awash in the bright neon lights of New Orleans’ gritty nightlife, “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon”The film appears to be one-third thriller, one-third psychological horror, one-third sci fi fantasy. This is Amirpour’s third feature, having won prizes at the Venice Film Festival. “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night” and her follow-up, 2016’s “Bad Batch.”

The film stars Evan Whitten and Ed Skrein. It premieres in theaters and digitally on Sept. 30.
