Unraveling the Mystery of Darth Tenebrous: What Happened to the Sith Lord?

There is a significant gap in our knowledge when it comes to the life and death of Darth Tenebrous in the “Star Wars” canon. According to “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary” by Pablo Hidalgo, Darth Tenebrous’ legacy is maintained by the Sith Eternal cultists residing on Exegol. His name is honored within the faction’s military, which is under the command of Emperor Palpatine. Specifically, the 26th Legion of the Sith Eternal army is known as the Tenebrous Legion and plays a role in the Battle of Exegol against the Resistance. As of now, this is the extent of what the current canon offers about Darth Tenebrous, but that could soon change.

Entering the scene on Disney+ is “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” a series that follows a group of Jedi endeavoring to uncover a dark enigma with ties to the Sith. The narrative unfolds approximately a century before the events of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” a timeline within which Darth Tenebrous may be actively influencing the galaxy. It’s even possible that Darth Plagueis, Darth Tenebrous’ apprentice, could be strategizing alongside him, plotting to overthrow their master and seize control of the galaxy. While Lucasfilm has remained mum on the true antagonist of “The Acolyte” (despite the trailer hinting at the Jedi as the primary antagonists in the franchise, rather than the Sith), the buzz surrounding the show suggests that a revelation of grand proportions may be imminent — such as the live-action introduction of Darth Tenebrous.

The initial two episodes of “The Acolyte” are set to debut on June 4, leaving “Star Wars” enthusiasts with little time to wait in anticipation of whether Darth Tenebrous will play a role, or if the search for his place in the canon will persist.
