Vera and Iris were old friends and walked down the street when they saw a black cat coming towards them. Iris moved away because she was afraid, but Vera grabbed her cat. She heard something strange in the distance. Later, she was shocked at what transpired.
“It’s a beautiful day,”Vera told her friend Iris that she was walking along with her every morning. Iris lived next to Vera. She accompanied her friend who was cleaning at the local school. Vera was retired. Iris enjoyed walking with Vera in the mornings to catch up.
“Yes, it is,”Iris nodded and continued walking. “I wish you could come with me to see my grandson, Joshie.”

“It’ll only make me miss my grandson. I hope he’s doing better now,”Vera said so wistfully
While she was living in Florida, her grandson lived in New York with her daughter. But he was the main reason she had started working again – she would do anything for that sweet boy – and she missed him so much.
“Work? I thought you would be retired already,”Alexandra made the comment, and Vera felt obliged to tell Vera all the truth.
Iris suddenly squeaked. “Yuck!”
“What?”Vera was confused and asked Iris a question before following her gaze to the ground in front. Vera smiled as she sat down to pet the beautiful black cat.
“Don’t do that! It’s bad luck!”Iris warned and fled in fear from the black cat.

She picked up the black cat, and saw a tag. However, it did not include the pet’s name. “Well, that’s not smart.”
Iris turned her back, avoiding the cat’s path and left in a hurry. Vera laughed at Iris’s friend. She decided to look for the cat’s owner. She began to search the area for her pet and started walking around.

She finally heard a small voice calling her name. “Kitty, kitty, kitty!”
She continued walking and saw a little girl standing in front of a house calling for her cat. “Hey, little darling. Is this your cat?”
“Molly!”The little girl shouted and approached the elderly woman. She fell, and she scrapped her knee. She started to cry.
Vera reached out to the little girl and comforted them. After a while, Vera knelt next to the little girl and comforts her. “What’s your name, sweetie?” Vera asked.
“Anna,”She answered, wiping her face with one hand and petting her cat the other.
Vera listened intently to the story of the cat’s escape. She had been searching for her for quite some time.
“My mom is going to be mad at me,”Anna added her innocence voice.
Vera was unable to contain her laughter. “She’ll understand.”
The car suddenly drove up to the house and a lady emerged from it quickly. “Anna! What are you doing outside?”

“Mom! Molly got away. I was looking for her!”
“I told you not to let her out! You have to be more responsible!”The mother scolded the woman, raising her child from the sidewalk. “What happened to your knee?”
Vera interjected and clarified everything more clearly. Finally, the young mother appeared to be calmer. “I see, thank you so much for helping out. Would you like to come in for tea? I don’t know many people in the area, and it would be nice to talk to someone.”
“Sure, that sounds lovely,”The older woman answered and they entered her home. Alexandra was her name, and she needed to rush to the convenience store to get something. She left her daughter alone.
“It was only a few minutes, I swear. I haven’t enrolled her in school yet,” Alexandra explained.
“Children at that age get curious.”
“For sure. I’ll never do that again. Do you have children? Grandchildren?”

Vera smiled and spoke about her daughter and having a grandson. Alexandra was easy to talk with, even though she was much younger than her. She suddenly had a flash of insight.
“Oh jeez! I’m late for work. I’m a cleaner at the school! Oh my god, I’ll get fired! Maybe black cats are bad luck after all,”She murmured, and got up from the sofa.
“Work? I thought you would be retired already,”Alexandra made the comment, and Vera felt obliged to tell Vera all the truth.
Her grandson Lukie had serious medical issues and she was in huge debt. She took out a loan of thousands of dollars and was able to get a job to repay it. Her pension was insufficient.
“And now, I can’t even save enough money to visit them in New York. Life is tricky and money runs the world,”The older woman was done. Alexandra was not slow to leave, so she quickly said good-bye and ran back to work.
Fortunately, her boss was kind and didn’t fire the woman. So she worked twice as hard, even though it hurt her back later.

“What’s this? Alexandra, you’ve already given me too much. We’re practically strangers!”The older woman expressed gratitude but also shame at such generosity.

“It’s my job to help people. Even strangers. And your story spoke to me for some reason. Anna doesn’t have grandparents. And I hope that your Lukie can spend as much time with his grandma as possible. So that money is for your plane ticket, so you can go see him,”Alexandra touched Vera’s arm lightly, and she revealed her identity.
The gesture finally made her sob. It was unbelievable to her. She could now pay off her debts, and also visit her granddaughter and grandson. How did she deserve this?
Vera giggled as Molly, a black cat, suddenly jumped in her lap. “You’re a lucky cat, you know?”She said it to the lovely pet with bright green eyes and he meowed back.
