Experts say that capturing a video for 30 seconds of your child could be life-saving.

According to a former paramedic, having footage of children breathing normally on hand could prove crucial in an emergency.

It is important to know what your baby's breathing is like normally, experts say

Nikki Jurcutz from Tiny Hearts Education“I advise every parent to record a video for 30 seconds of their child’s chest breathing normally.

“You can use this video to compare to your child’s breathing when they are sick.

This will allow you to know if your child is breathing normally.

“So if you haven’t done so already, (or if it’s been a while since you’ve last done it), open up your phone’s camera.”

The clips are not only useful for parents but can be shared with nurseries, doctors, babysitters.

If they have a respiratory condition such as bronchiolitis (bronchitis), croup or the respiratory syncytial viral (RSV), it could be a matter of life and death.

Untreated, they can prove fatal.

Nikki, a former emergency worker from Australia who specialises in baby and child first aid, shared the potentially life-saving advice on Instagram.

They hurried to her and thanked for the technique.

Blair Russell says: “This small tip helped us many times with the recurring croup last year.

“Whenever [my daughter] It would be nice to have a video taken of her so I could see whether or not she had worsened in breathing.

When our second baby comes, I’ll continue using this.

Chloe Ridgwell commented: “This really is a great idea.

“When the twins had the flu and I was crying on the phone to the doctor, I was like, ‘I don’t know what’s normal’.

“You’re in such a state of stress and full of anxiety when they are unwell and can’t think straight, so I’m definitely going to do this.”
