Authorities revealed that her nephew made the gruesome discovery after Hnath, who lived alone following her husband’s passing, failed to show up at church. Ransacked Home and Previous Robbery
Investigators noted that Hnath’s home was ransacked, with several items being touched and moved around. Thomas McAndrew of the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office shared during a press conference that a month before her death, Hnath’s residence was already robbed. The situation raised suspicions as McAndrew highlighted the peculiarity of two burglaries occurring within a short span.
Advances in DNA Technology
Following the murder, detectives diligently worked to identify the culprit, but the case eventually went cold. However, in 2018, advancements in DNA technology reignited the investigation. Pennsylvania State Detective Robert Devers mentioned, “There have been some DNA profiles obtained from some items within the residence that we’re exploring for potential genealogical identification.”
Arrest and Extradition
Fast forward to the present, and authorities have successfully apprehended Michael Breisch, the alleged perpetrator of Hnath’s murder. At the time of the incident, Breisch was 30 years old and resided in a community corrections facility in Allentown. He is not believed to have any prior connection to Hnath. After moving to Wind Gap, Ohio, Breisch was arrested and extradited back to Pennsylvania, where he is currently detained in Lehigh County Jail without bail.
