Content:

A 9-year-old boy in Utah is suspected of killing his father in a “gruesome, violent” manner, according to police.

Investigation by Tooele Police Department:

The Tooele Police Department is still investigating the incident in which a man was shot in the head and then repeatedly struck with a hatchet, as reported by KUTV. Newly unsealed warrants obtained by KUTV indicate that the victim’s young son has been identified as the suspect.

Scene of the Crime:

Officers responded to what they thought was a suicide attempt around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 after a report of a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. Subsequent investigation revealed that the gunshot wound was not self-inflicted. Medical personnel confirmed lacerations to his head, face, hands, and arms as defensive wounds.

Details of the Tragedy:

According to the warrant, two other adults were present at the home that evening. They reported an issue between father and son, which led the victim and his son to retire to bed early due to behavioral problems. Later, the son emerged alone from the bedroom with news of his father’s demise.

Further Evidence:

During their investigation, police discovered multiple firearms in the bedroom, along with a bloody hatchet and a handgun with a missing bullet. Detectives believe the tomahawk-style hatchet attack followed the gunshot to the head, leading to a particularly violent killing.

Involvement of Violent Video Games:

The warrant mentions that the boy frequently played violent video games on his tablet and had previously watched inappropriate videos, resulting in disciplinary action. Among the games he played was one featuring both a handgun and a tomahawk as weapons.

Legal Actions:

Emergency responders took the injured man to the hospital, where he passed away the next day. The 9-year-old son was apprehended three days later, as disclosed by a spokesperson for the Toole Police Department. Further details about potential charges or the boy’s custody were not provided due to his age.
