Sergei Rakhlin (Russian-born journalist, member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association from 1996 to now), has passed away. He was 78.

Rakhlin joined HFPA 1996. He had bylines in Vogue, Variety and Action! Rakhlin was a member of the HFPA in 1996. He had bylines that appeared in Variety, Action!, Vogue, Variety, and Film Search throughout all his career. He was the executive secretary for six terms and the treasurer for one term of the HFPA. His contributions to the productions of the Golden Globes were between 2008 and 2017. Rakhlin served as a member of the Foreign Film Committee (now Non-English Language Film Committee), for which he was nominated for an Emmy for his production of the Globes awards ceremony.

Rakhlin, also known as the Americanized Rakhlin “Serge,”Born in Gorky, Russia in 1943, he settled in Riga (Lettonia) when he was 7. After graduating from Latvian State University with a degree as a journalist, he went on to work as a screenwriter and writer in Latvia before moving to the United States in 1980. After earning an MA at the University of Southern California, he worked as a general producer and artistic director, and as a talk-show host at WMNB TV and Radio Stations (New York, Los Angeles and Toronto). He was also editor-in-chief of Panorama newspaper, Los Angeles, as well as Hollywood analyst for The Voice of America.

Rakhlin was passionately involved in international cinema and served as a jury member at festivals like the Tallinn Black Nights, Kiev International Film Festival and Tallinn Black Nights.

He is survived his wife Emilia and son Nick, as well as daughter-in-law Marina.
