The Lincoln Lawyer has officially been renewed for season 3 but while the show is returning, Neve Campbell’s Maggie McPherson won’t be.
After first premiering on Netflix in 2022, The Lincoln Lawyer has quickly become one of the streaming service’s biggest shows and following an enthralling second season, the legal drama has been renewed for season 3 – but while Mickey Haller will be returning for a new case, a key cast member won’t be back.

Netflix announced on August 30 that The Lincoln Lawyer would be renewed for a 3rd season, just four weeks following the conclusion of its 2nd season.
Season 3 will also have 10 episodes, just like the first two seasons. The season may be divided into two, but it is yet to be determined.
Beyond that, Netflix also revealed that The Lincoln Lawyer’s third season will cover the events of The Gods Guilt, the fifth book in Michael Connelly’s literary series.
Speaking about the renewal, co-showrunners, Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez said: “The audience response to the show has been so gratifying and wonderful, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to dive back into Michael Connelly’s universe and bring Mickey Haller and his world to the screen again.”
Neve Campbell leaves The Lincoln Lawyer
While Mickey Haller and the majority of The Lincoln Lawyer cast will be returning for season 3, one key cast member won’t be coming back.
The actress in question is Neve Campbell, a veteran of House of Cards and the Scream film franchise, who plays Mickey’s first wife, Maggie McPherson.
While the character featured regularly in season 1, her role was significantly reduced in season 2 and she’s not expected to feature at all in the third season according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The main reason for Neve Campbell’s departure is due to the fact that her character doesn’t feature in The Gods Guilt book so it would make little sense for her to appear.
In order to prepare for that, showrunners prepared by having Maggie accept a new position in a city other than her own. This would explain Maggie’s absence.
Return hint
The Hollywood Reporter hinted that Neve Campbell might not be permanently gone.
According to the publication’s sources, the door will remain open for Neve Campbell to return in future seasons should the writers feel the need for Maggie to head back to Los Angeles.
The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 will be released on September 29, 2009. Available to stream Netflix is now available.
