Rita Wilson is a woman of many talents. This year’s Emmys ceremony saw Wilson prove that she’s multi-dimensional. The Neighborhood star Cedric the Entertainer kicked off the ceremony with a monologue. Ced, instead of telling jokes and reeling the audience in with hot topics of this year’s year, paid tribute to Biz Markie by performing a star-studded rendition of karaoke. After a long battle with Type 2 Diabetes, Markie passed away in July.
Cedric was joined for a rendition of Markie’s classic “Just a Friend,” by actor and rapper LL Cool J, Lil Dicky, and the stars of Hamilton, Mandy Moore, and other shows. Wilson sang a few lines from the song, which was what really shocked people.
Wilson’s love for hip-hop is not new. During the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic when she and her husband Tom were diagnosed and forced to quarantine, she shared a video of herself rapping to Naughty by Nature’s “Hip Hop Hooray.” Viewers of the Emmys, and probably some of her Hollywood peers, may not have been ready for her television rap debut. They were nevertheless impressed. Wilson lit up social media and the responses are almost as funny as her performance. Here are some tweets.

Celebs aren’t the only ones who sip on wine and mixed cocktails during the highly anticipated awards ceremony as they watch it live. One Twitter user suggested that Wilson should have drunk more in preparation.
