In September 2021, the Tajogaite volcano began erupting on the island of La Palma, marking the first eruption since 1971. This eruption, lasting an unprecedented 85 days, caused catastrophic damage amounting to €843 million (£721m), making it the most devastating volcanic event ever recorded on the island.
