A pilot has created the world’s largest portrait of Queen Elizabeth II using an aircraft to raise money for charity.

Amal Larhlid flew two hours on a Piper PA-28 in the outline and color of the late Queen wearing her crown in tribute to the monarch who passed away last month. This was to raise funds for Hospice UK.

FlightRadar recorded the flight and it covered 256 mile. The portrait is 65 m high by 39 m wide.

The profile of Queen Elizabeth covers Oxford, while her crown spans from Milton Keynes and Warwickshire with a jewel in its centre.

Ms. Larhlid posted the following on her JustGiving fundraising webpage: “She was an inspiration to many generations, devoting herself to service for 70 years.

“I do believe in the power of remembrance and appreciation in times like these, and I’ll be flying the portrait of Her Late Majesty to pay my respect.

“She will always be in our hearts, and so will our loved ones who left us too.”

Ms. Larhlid designed her route by using a portrait of Queen Elizabeth to create a format that was recognized by ForeFlight, a flight planning program.

Additionally, she had a manual backup of the route using landmarks and flew numerous practice flights to get the feel for the track and turns.

She had to keep in touch with air traffic control as parts of her flight path took place in restricted airspace.

Despite her planning, bad weather ruined Ms Larhlid’s first attempt on Tuesday and left her “gutted”.

The rescheduled flight took place on Thursday despite 30knot winds. Ms Larhlid stated to Flightradar24 that she had no choice but to stay. “laser focused on the track”The challenge was “great fun”.

Due to the tight turns, she said that the most difficult part of the flight was creating the crown.

Having completed her flight, Ms Larhlid’s fundraising page has already received more than £1,000 towards her goal of £5,000.
