Nicole Richie was surrounded by friends and loved ones when she celebrated her 40th birthday on Tuesday. Paris Hilton’s friend had to endure a terrible accident when her hair caught on fire. This left fans and friends reeling.
At the beginning of the week, the Hollywood star turned 40. She posted a video on social media showing her blowing out the candles from her birthday cake.
Kelly Sawyer (Baby2Baby coCEO) handed her the cake and began singing to Nicole.
The joyful moment was quickly halted when Nicole accidentally lit her hair on purpose as she reached over to make a wish and blow out the candles.

The crowd surrounding the stunning star could be heard singing and cheering in the Instagram clip she posted, but this was soon exchanged for loud squeals, screams and screeches as the flames from the candles engulfed Nicole’s hair.
Nicole can be seen attempting to extinguish the flames by pulling at her clothes and patting their skins.
Although initially scared by the incident, Nicole now finds it funny and can laugh about it.
She captioned her post: “Well… so far 40 is [fire emoji].”

Her husband Joel Madden responded with a quote from Nicole’s The Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton and wrote: “That’s hot.”
Paris herself even replied, and said: “OMFG. Happy Birthday Bill! Hope your ok! Love youuuuu.” [sic]
Katy Perry also commented: “WAIT NO WAY WAIT OMG.”
Singer Kelly Rowland also left a message, saying: “My heart just dropped!!!!”
Another friend commented: “OHMYGOD NOOO!!!! I love you be careful!”

Husband Joel penned: “Happy Birthday Nicole. You’ve made love feel timeless I’ve forgotten how old we are.”
Nicole’s sister Sofia Richie commented that she is “so lucky” to have Nicole as a big sister, where she wrote: “I love you beyond words.”
Nicole grew up in the spotlight thanks to having a famous dad, singer Lionel Richie.
Her wild child image has changed a lot since having children, Sparrow, 12, and Harlow, 13.
The mum-of-two tied the knot in December 2010 to Joel in a French garden themed wedding on her dad Lionel Richie’s estate.
