Netflix's One Piece Marketing Campaign Failed During Hollywood Strikes

Netflix, the once dominant streaming service in the world of entertainment, is not viewed with much affection by the public. They were already under fire when fans commented on the hypocrisy behind their billboard for “One Piece”, which featured Luffy, who was known as a fighter against oppressive governments.

Tweets @rae_OUT987 Netflix asked “What would Luffy Do?” Saying, “Luffy will fight Netflix’s CEO to ensure that working-class people get their fair share.” @El_Meathead The following are some examples of how to get started: @SmilinKraken Also suggested that Luffy would pay the crew of “One Piece” what they deserve in order to get the show into Season 2 faster. @Sydneyxface Netflix has suggested that they don’t understand the character they have adapted. “He wouldn’t allow hard-working individuals to go unpaid.”

@MtnRangerDave While pointing out Netflix’s disparity with Luffy and his allies, he wrote, “Well Luffy is well known for rewarding and valuing his crew and ally, giving them loot often in the name of freedom.” Maybe a modern example would be paying people who act in shows, write scripts, or do any other task on the production floor better than those that oversee it? Similarly, @MothMonma Luffy said that he would give any money he earned to the people who helped him achieve it.[He] “He would never allow them to go on strike and last for several months, purely because of his greed and selfishness.”

The piece was written in 2023, during the WGA and SAGAFTRA strike. Click here to read an updated explanation from the Looper team about why actors and writers are on strike.
