Cheslie Kryst was Miss USA 2019 and was a correspondent. She committed suicide in New York City on Sunday. She was thirty-one years old.
In a statement, her family confirmed the news to The Associated Press Washington PosT. Police said that she leapt from an apartment building.
“In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie,”The statement is as follows: “Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined. Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on EXTRA. But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague — we know her impact will live on.”
Kryst was born in Jackson, Michigan but later moved to South Carolina where she graduated from the University of South Carolina, the Darla Moore School of Business, and later North Carolina’s Wake Forest University School of Law. Kryst was a former Miss Carolina, and she won the Miss USA crown in 2019.
