Kevin Feige Teases the Importance of Werewolf by Night at MCU

With “Werewolf by Night,”The Marvel Cinematic Universe is turning spooky.

A new 53-minute film, titled a “Marvel Studios Special Presentation”Directed by Michael Giacchino and will debut on Disney+ next Wednesday. Gael Garcia Bernal plays the title role. The film evokes Universal monster movies of the 1940s with its black-and–white photography, scratchy soundtracks and exaggerated performances.

But how do you? “Werewolf by Night,”How does this movie, with its rampaging monsters and curses, blend in with the rest the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A new featurette, which you can view above, has some clues.

Dubbed “Monstrous New Side,”The featurette includes interviews with Giacchino and Bernal, as well as star Laura Donnelly, and other behind-the scenes personalities. Kevin Feige, executive producer, is also president of Marvel Studios. “We’re introducing a world that will ultimately become quite important to the future of the MCU,”Feige states in the featurette.

Although it’s often unclear (Feige the ultimate entertainment politician), it makes sense. With projects like Disney+, darkness has been slowly creeping into Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Moon Knight” (where Oscar Isaac played a schizophrenic, occasionally murderous hero) and this summer’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” directed by horror legend Sam Raimi and featuring a climax where Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) inhabits the body of his rotting doppelgänger.

Also on the agenda is feature film “Blade,” starring Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali as the half-human/half-vampire “day-walker,”The upcoming Disney+ series “Agatha: Coven of Chaos,”A “WandaVision” spin-off centered around Kathryn Hahn’s witchy character.

“Werewolf by Night” is probably the most openly horror-flavored Marvel Studios offering – there’s tons of blood and monsters galore. Even the rousing Marvel Studios logo gets a thunder-and-lightning remake that wouldn’t be out of place in Transylvania. If this is the opening salvo of what’s to come, then that is very exciting indeed.

“Werewolf by Night”On October 7, Disney+ will premiere the first Disney+ movie.
