Many people have come forward before after getting their lips filled. One woman said that she felt like her teeth were gone after the procedure.

A specialist has revealed all you need to know regarding lip fillers, and how they can cause you to get nasty sores.

Central Recorder: Dr Ross Perry, cosmetic dermatologist of skin clinics chain CosmedicsLip fillers can look fantastic when done with respect to the patient’s natural shape and proportions.

He said, “But we often see that this isn’t done and expectations of ‘natural’Even though practitioners promise that they will, looking lips are not visible.

“I would not have my lips done unless the physician was trustworthy or I had a recommendation from someone I know who has seen their work.

“If you have cold sores with the potential to increase inflammation, scarring or previous wounds to your lips, your doctor has recommended that you not continue.

“You need to do your research and not find the nearest place especially if its out of a beauty salon as there is no guarantee you can find the practitioner again should anything go wrong as mobile practitioners are often not around when you need them.”

For people with herpes, injections of lip fillers can trigger it.

Dr Perry explained that some lip-filler procedures can result in abscesses, scarring, and a deformity.

He also explained that there may be ‘coldsore activation’ or vascular occlusion. Vascular occlusion is a medical emergency when filler blocks an artery or vein. It can cause skin death, loss of lips and scarring.

Following the Central Recorder’s campaign, “Had Our Fill”, a ban has been placed on botox and other lip fillers for children.

The UK doesn’t have any legislation that would prohibit non-medical practitioners from administering injectable cosmetic treatments.

But the general consensus in the industry is that they should only be performed by qualified medical professionals who have experience with needles.

It’s one of the reasons Central Recorder launched its Had Our Fill campaign to stop adverts on social media and have a Government-backed register for practitioners. Lip fillers were banned for under 18s after our campaign.

Dr Perry said you should avoid procedures that have an adverse risk ratio to results.

He stated that there are many risks, including infection, blood loss, skin problems, swelling, deformity, persistent discomfort and low success rates.

Dr Perry says that nose jobs with dermal Fillers can lead to skin loss, even slight loss, and it is simply not worth the risk.

He said: “‘Plexr’ or plasma which is meant to help with upper eyelids by essentially burning the skin to cause it shrivel and often leaves scars and does not even work.”

Dr Perry stated that fat freezing for double chins can make patients unhappy because it is not always very effective.

He advised that you be vigilant when it comes to surgery.

He said, “Going overseas is foolish as there are many complications associated with work abroad. Patients seem happy to take on the risk in order to save money.

“It is better to wait and be patient than to have it done by a respected BAAPS-trained surgeon in the UK.

“Getting a deal/offer is madness and is now against guidelines so if they are offering deals and discounts then you need to be wary as they are treating you as another ‘number’ and not a patient.”

He advised that you always consider the risks and whether the clinic is willing to take responsibility for any problems.

He suggested that you avoid certain procedures or make it a last resort.

He explained: “One stitch facelifts are not common place as reputable surgeons don’t offer them as they don’t work or are of limited value.

“Butt lifts or BBL (Brazilian butt lift) are very high risk with using your own fat or implant and young fit and well patients have died from this procedure, is it really worth the risk?”

Dr Perry also highlighted labiaplasty – and said that this is only really recommended if the labia is above normal size which is usually around 2cm, but that 4cm is also considered normal unless you are in discomfort.

He said, “Otherwise there would be a rise in pornography and expectation of the ‘designer vagina’People with low or moderate labia trends may be more likely to undergo this procedure, without considering the psychological effects it might have.

“So again needs very careful consideration and seek expert opinion.”
