My teenage daughter was diagnosed with cancer as she was brushing her hair.

Kerry Minshall, a mother of a teenage daughter, noticed something strange on her neck while brushing her hair.

Holly-Louise Edwards was 39 when she asked Holly-Louise Edwards her daughter where the lump had come from. She said it had been there for a while.

Kerry, the mother of two, stated that her 13 year old son had also lost weight and been suffering from tiredness.

After being checked over by medics, the youngster was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last month.

Kerry is now home-schooled as a result of the illness. The family is fundraising money to support Kerry.

Kerry said StokeonTrentLive: “She has so long hair that she never ties it back so it never crossed my mind. It was huge when I first saw it. We took her straight to the doctors and she was quickly referred by them.

“She had been for scans and tests but they said, from day one, that there was a possibility that it was cancer.

“What she has got runs in my family. It’s known to be hereditary.”

What are the signs and symptoms of lymphoma carcinoma?

There are two main kinds of lymphoma – Hodgkin Lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Lymphoma may cause many symptoms, depending on what type of lymphoma and where it is located in the body.

TThese are the most obvious signs:

  1. Swollen lymph nodes in the armpit, neck or groin.
  2. Night sweats
  3. Extreme tiredness
  4. Itching
  5. Unexplained weight loss
  6. Fever
  7. Excessive bleeding (e.g., nosebleeds), heavy periods or blood under the skin

You may also notice other signs of lymphoma in a localized area.

  1. Loss of appetite, swelling of the stomach and other abdominal symptoms
  2. Tightness of chest, coughing, or shortness-of-breath

Holly-Louise is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Royal Stoke University Hospital. She is also taking steroids.

Her mum said that she is doing well and is feeling tired.

She will continue with her treatment plan for the next two months. Then, she will undergo a scan to determine if she needs radiotherapy.

Kerry stated that Holly-Louise’s family decided to home-school Holly Louise because they were concerned about her contracting coronavirus.

Family members were told by their doctors that although the cancer is in its fourth stage, they are still possible to cure.

Kerry admitted that she felt guilty after learning that their little girl had been diagnosed with cancer.

She said Holly-Louise does have moments when she gets upset but that she is a fighter.

They also plan to take her on holiday.

The family replied: “When this is all over she has asked if we can take her to Lapland or New York, this has been a dream of hers since she was little.”

Kerry stated that knowing that so many people support her little girl is a’mazing’ thing.
