How to build the ultimate home of your dreams by 2022

TikTok, the main driver behind so many trends, has another trend for home interiors in 2022: Maximalism.

Defined as “an aesthetic of excess,” maximalism is often a reaction to minimalism, the long-reigning design approach that’s had a chokehold on beige-loving millennials for years. Maximalism can be colorful, kitschy, cluttered, esoteric or any other descriptive words, but it is primarily dependent on an abundance of. “things” and – most importantly – having Have fun. That’ something we can all use as we head into year three of the big C.

Interior designer and co-founder of CARME HOMEMarc Epstein, one of the many brands below, gives this advice for achieving maximalist perfection.

“The way to pull off maximalism is to keep your decor from looking too random. Try to find a few common colours or patterns to repeat through the room. For example, if you opt for a bright pink velvet stool, try to include another pink velvet item in the room such as a cushion or lamp shade. Similarly, if you go for a cow print rug, include a small item with cow print as well, perhaps a coaster or vase.”

Marc also explains this. “underlying consistency”And “opening up your space”Maximizing out is about two things. These goals can be achieved by curating meaningful collections and adding large mirrors to bring more light into your home.

Consider this example: Do souvenir shot glasses are something you enjoy taking home from your travels? Arrange them artfully on a shelf to show a road map of where you’ve been. You may have seen a mirror with Baroque influences at an antique shop. Take it home and mount it on a gallery wall in the living room.

You probably already have plenty of objects that you can use to achieve your minimalist interior design goals. We recommend first looking on resell websites like Chairish, 1st Dibs and eBay for vintage pieces that have character and a backstory that match your interests. This will help you tell a story about yourself and what you value. Our current fixations when searching eBay include Mid-century Modern kitschy decor and vintage Chalkware wall plaques, but a little research and you’ll surely find your own fun favorites.

In addition, it’s also nice to keep a few fresh, new items on display to unify the aesthetic and keep the look modern.
