Hannah English, a pharmacist and researcher said that there were five warning signs you need to be aware of.

1. Get rid of the sponge

According to the Australian-based expert, she wouldn’t use any sponge or loofah as a wash cloth.

She shared that she thought they were “disgusting”, and said no one had ever washed them.

“If you’re getting rashes on your body, it’s probably your loofah. Get rid of it, use your hands.”

Melissa Piliang of the Cleveland Clinic The US states that sponges can be used as a breeding ground for bacteria.

Additionally, they may contain fungal organisms which can cause skin infections.

2. Avoid spraying perfume on the chest or neck.

All of us have seen perfume advertisements in which a gorgeous model sprays perfume liberally on their necks and chests.

Hannah cautioned that the dangers of perfume compounds could make it dangerous.

She added: “They aren’t necessarily bad for you but they do make your skin more photosensitive.

“So I always spray my perfume on the back of the neck on my hairline. It lasts longer that way too.”

Your skin could become more photosensitive if it is exposed to sunlight and tanning beds. Skin Cancer Foundation states.

3. Don’t mix suncream

Experts warn that SPF should be worn every day even when you are not in the UK.

Dermatologist Dr Hiva Fassihi The risk of skin injury is a concern throughout the year, as previously mentioned.

“It’s really important to use a sunscreen every day, even in winter months, because ultraviolet, which is an invisible radiation, is present all year round, even in the winter months.

“Because we know ultraviolet can cause problems with skin cancer and skin ageing, it’s really important to incorporate sunscreen use into your daily regime so it becomes routine.”

Hannah said that it is important not to mix SPF products with other products.

She explained that you should apply moisturiser, then let dry. Next, they will put sunscreen on. After it dries, go on with your makeup.

You should not use any tint, no bronzer or any other product in your sunscreen.

“The reason for that is it needs to form an even film on your skin so that the coverage is not patchy, you could destabilise the whole thing by adding whatever you are adding.”

4. Not all preserves are good

Today, many products claim to be “free of preservatives”.

Hannah said, however that this doesn’t necessarily make it a positive thing.

She said, “Preservatives are used in products to prevent mould growth.”

“And once again with the mould we are trying to prevent that so that we don’t get a rash, so that we don’t get a lot of other harmful stuff.

“If a water-based product has no preservatives, it will get mould in it.”

5. Makeup shouldn’t be reliant on sunscreen

Hannah said that SPF protection should not be relied on only for makeup.

She stated that although your makeup might be SPF30 or 50+, the proper amount of sunscreen you should use to keep your skin protected is about one quarter teaspoon.

“And if you’ve ever measured out a quarter teaspoon of foundation, and tried to put it on your face, you’ll know that no one wears that much foundation,” She said.
