SteamTown: A New Western-Themed Amusement Park to Open in Maryland

A WESTERN-THEMED amusement park is set to open in the near future and will thrust visitors into the past. The new addition will include rollercoasters and rapids that travelers near and far can enjoy. Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland has unveiled its latest immersive experience at the park: SteamTown: Where the Past Meets the Future. The theme park is set to debut in June, and there is already buzz for its arrival.

Storytime: Explore Professor Screamore’s Creations

Visitors will be led by a man called Professor Screamore and taken on a tour through the immersive new land with the rich history of a western town. It will feature unique upgrades crafted by the professor himself, and each area will be influenced by the notable figure. The story goes that the town of Coyote Creek was purchased in secrecy by Professor Screamore. He has “invited” guests to SteamTown to “revel in the odysseys, feel the force of evolution, and twist their minds in the unexpected,” according to the Six Flags website.

Rough Rides: Experience the Thrilling Attractions

“We are thrilled with our collaboration with Professor Screamore and excited to share our most detailed park realm to date,” said Vaughan. Located at the center of his town is the all-new SteamWhirler, which is the professor’s prized invention. It sends riders into the air with four rotating arms that are synchronized to float you out of your seat at random times. Visitors can also travel back in time on a prehistoric adventure on QuantumCanyon Rapids. After years of research, the professor has “pioneered the art of time travel” and guests will be transported back more than 200 million years on rafts for a white-water tour. ElectroDerby is an electric-themed attraction where the professor uses “modern technology” for riders to power up “state-of-the-art” buggies before bumping and dodging other riders. Guests can also “get their wings” and learn to fly on the SkyWinder rollercoaster. They board two trains with upgraded restraints and fly at 50 miles per hour once they reach the top.

Dining and Details: More Than Just Rides

Fun rides aren’t all that is coming to SteamTown. Visitors also have the option to drink at Fillament’s SteamPub which has a Western feel with a modern twist. As the center of the town’s social scene, it’s hard to miss and is said to have the charm of a traditional saloon. Guests of the party will also be able to greet Professor Screamore himself through the storytelling of SteamTown with SteamHeist, a “stunt show spectacular.” It is expected to “dazzle fans with the bravery, tenacity, and just a bit of quirkiness of Professor Screamore.” The show gives a detailed look at how he developed SteamTown.
