Gmail is here to stay
It’s true that Gmail is here to stay. There is no need for panic among millions of users. The only version that is disappearing is the bare-bones HTML View of Gmail. Google began transitioning users who are still using Basic HTML View to the latest one starting January. However, if you’re one of the few people still using Basic HTML, you might notice some differences, but be reassured that your Gmail account and all its content are not going anywhere.
Backlash from users
The decision to remove HTML Basic View has not been well taken by some users, especially those who are blind or partially sighted. For them, the HTML Basic View made using screen reader technology much easier and simple. The move was met with anger and criticism once announced last year. Blind technology expert, Pratik Patel, expressed his concern for blind people who use Gmail’s HTML view. He mentioned that they will not only be confused but also unhappy with the decision.
