5 things that lasted longer then Liz Truss in Ten Downing Street

The Prime Minister has resigned.

This is not a story about Boris Johnson from last summer. Liz Truss resigned after only 45 days.

It’s not that long. In fact, she’s the longest-serving prime Minister in British history.

These five things lasted longer than Truss at Downing Street to put it in perspective.

1. Central Recorder’s lettuce

Writers at The EconomistLast week, she made the harsh comparison, saying that she wouldn’t survive much longer in post. The Central RecorderDecided to do some investigative journalism to find out if Truss would remain in the post of PM for more time than it takes a 60p lettuce to deliquesce in a supermarket.

The lettuce won.

2. Truss’s leadership campaign

Truss, which is embarrassingly, spent more time on the campaign to become the Tory leader than she did leading the party that elected her.

This is going to make you miserable.

3. David Blaine’s glassbox stunt

The American illusionist David Blaine spent 44 consecutive days in 2003 suspended in a box near the River Thames in London, without food.

It shocked the entire world, and it was reported that around 10,000 people looked at him.

There’s a joke or simile in the story about being PM being like being in an enclosed glass box with the public looking at you every move. But Blaine’s stunt lasted as long as Truss was PM. That’s very scary indeed.

4. Nadhim Zahawi

Boris Johnson named Nadhim Zahawi chancellor to maintain the Tory leadership race. He was described as a “caretaker chancellor”.

He was not expected to do anything, he just continued while awaiting the new chancellor.

Zahawi remained as chancellor for 63 more days. This is more than the 38 days that Kwasi Kwarteng, chancellor, lasted and it is also longer than Truss’s premiership.

5. England manager Sam Allardyce

England manager for 2016 was Allardyce, who lasted just more than two months. England only played one match under him.

Truss couldn’t even make the journey that long.

We could feel sorry for her, but then she plunged the Pound and had no mandate to do so…
