Sonic the Hedgehog is back \u2014 and this time he\u2019s got some new franchise favorites keeping him company.<\/p>\n

\u201cSonic the Hedgehog 2\u201d is now in theaters, two years after the release of the first film, and sees the return of the beloved, super-speedy Sega character (voiced by Ben Schwartz) once again going toe-to-toe with the villainous Doctor Eggman Robotnik (Jim Carrey) \u2026 and his new partner, Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba). But Sonic has backup too with the arrival of sidekick Tails (voiced by Colleen O\u2019Shaughnessey).<\/p>\n

When Is \u2018Sonic the Hedgehog 2\u2019 in Theaters?<\/h2>\n

\u201cSonic the Hedgehog 2\u201d is in theaters nationwide on April 8. You can book tickets and find showtimes<\/a> in theaters near you on the official website.<\/p>\n

Is \u2018Sonic 2\u2019 Streaming?<\/h2>\n

Not yet. Paramount is releasing \u201cSonic the Hedgehog\u201d exclusively in theaters (and it\u2019s on track for a big opening weekend box office), which means the film is not available to watch on streaming day and date.<\/p>\n

Since \u201cSonic\u201d is distributed by Paramount Pictures, you can expect to see it streaming on Paramount+ about 45 days after theatrical release, which means you can look forward to watching \u201cSonic 2\u201d at home sometime in late May.<\/p>\n

ViacomCBS is taking a \u201ccase-by-case\u201d approach to determining the theatrical window for their films. \u201cA Quiet Place Part II\u201d and \u201cJackass Forever\u201d both had 45-day theatrical windows, while \u201cScream\u201d had a 52-day window. We\u2019ll update this spot when we get a confirmed streaming release date for \u201cSonic the Hedgehog 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you want to watch the 2020 \u201cSonic the Hedgehog\u201d movie on streaming, you can find it on Paramount+<\/a> and Epix<\/a>. It\u2019s also available to rent or purchase on most major digital providers, including Amazon, AppleTV, and Google Play.<\/p>\n

Who Is in the Cast \u2014 and Which \u2018Sonic the Hedgehog\u2019 Characters Are They Playing?<\/h2>\n

Returning alongside Schwarz (as Sonic) and Carrey (as Doctor Robotnik) are <\/p>\n

James Marsden as Green Hills Sheriff and Sonic\u2019s human friend Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Tom\u2019s wife Maddie, Natasha Rothwell as Maddie\u2019s sister, and Lee Majdoub as Robotnik\u2019s loyal assistant Stone.<\/p>\n
